Step 1. How to tie a Moal Leech

Take Fire wire braided line and loop through turned up eye of bait hook, and clamp in first vise. Now continue with the braided line going through cone, and continue through eye of shank (wrap around two times and the go back through eye and cone.) Clamp into Second vise as photo above.

Materials Needed, below:


All the materials needed to tie four Moal Leeches:

  • Four Cones
  • Four Hook Shanks
  • Four Rabbit Strips
  • Four Hooks
  • Four 12 inch Firewire String Line
  • Two 12 inch Pearl Flashabou Tinsel (not shown in photo)
  • Tear Mender, Zap-a-Gap Super Glue (not shown in photo)
  • Moal Leech Fly Tying Kit

    Step 2.

    Super glue shank and tie on heavy thread, Tie Fire Line braid to shanks and continue down to ΒΌ inch short of trailing hook in first vise.

    Super Glue Fire Line braid line and tie on rabbit fur strip

    Next Step

    Step 4.

    Begin wrapping the rabbit fur strips down the braided fire line. Make sure to super glue as you go, and don't twist the fire line braid, just wrap and hold rabbit fur strip on place. The super glue will hold the fur in place.

    Step 5.

    You can add another color of rabbit fur by tying off the previous, super gluing, then tying on the next color and super gluing.

    Step 6.

    Super Glue and Tie off rabbit fur. Now add two strips of Flashabou to each side of Moal Leech. Tie off against Cone head and add drop of super glue.
