Need a double handed Spey casting lesson?
It is important when beginning to learn how to cast a double handed fly rod, that you learn correct fundamentals so as you go forward on your very fun journey of casting and fishing with a Spey fly rod, that correct muscle memory/motor learning is programmed/trained into your muscles and subconscious mind (you can cast correctly without thinking about it).
Learn the basics correctly and then build upon them with your own style.
Besides learning how to cast, Jeff Layton will teach the importance of matching the correct fly line with a fly rod. Matching the correct weight of line to the students fly rod or future fly rod. Jeff will also help the student target and fast track the area of their interest to the type of fly casting that will best meet their needs.
How most lessons work:
- lessons are two hours long. I usually give lessons in the morning, what mornings work best for you?
- Meet on the Washougal River in Washougal WA.
- Greeting - High how are you doing :-)
- Assemble rod or rods (you don't need a rod but if you have one we can use it and also I will have a rod for you to use if you want).
- Put on waders, double hand lessons we need to wade up to our knees.
- Walk to the river and we start talking about 'River Right" and "River Left" and begin with a Switch/Roll Cast, and build from there.

Success Story – I gave Paul a Spey Casting Lesson (he already was a good single hand caster) This winter Paul caught this nice Winter Steelhead on the Hoh River – way to go Paul!
Fly Casting Video Lessons
If you are a beginner, intermediate, or advance intermediate caster. A great way to advance your casting skills is to watch a video of yourself casting. You can then upload your video to YouTube, Vimeo, Dropbox.com, or social media and email the link back to grabflies, and I/Jeff Layton will review and email you screen shots of things I see that you can work on to improve your casting.
