This flies has fished best with Red cone Moal leeches are tied entirely on a string with a trailer hook at the back. This gives the fly greater action than a fly tied on a rigid hook. More fish are landed with the Moal fly as well. The combination of rabbit fur which has incredible life in the water and flashabou creates an illuminated attraction for fish. A real winner! Two Toned Flash Moal Leech - Flashabou and rabbit wrapped around a string go together. Moal Leeches have great movement in the water. They wiggle and undulate, which moves the flashabou in wave like motion reflecting colorful light waves as the fly swings across the river. Two Toned (color) Flash Moals have two different colors of flashabou tied in. The tail color is tied in after half the fly is wrapped with rabbit. The head flashabou is tied with a length of 2/3's the fly length. This works much better that two colors of flashabou tied in together at the cone.

Greg's Kriller Constructed on the banks of the Kanektok River the killer krill, or Kriller, was designed for maximum castabilty as well as its flaring motion when swinging across hydraulic “fences” in the water column. With the weight of the dumbbell eyes at the back of the shank, the Kriller swings deep with more of a downward-diagonal profile than most traditional patterns. A devouring size for both chrome Chinook and Steelhead, having the eyes closer to the hook attracts some of the most aggressive eats you can find near tidewater!

The Intruder has quickly become one of the most popular steelhead patterns on the West Coast. It is a large fly that was designed by the West Coast steelhead guide Ed Ward, with the help and feedback of fellow anglers Scott Howell, Jerry French, and Dec Hogan. Since its inception, there have been numerous variations, and it is safe to say that it is more of a style of fly rather than a pattern. Our Sili-Leg Intruders are tied on medium length 35mm Waddington Shanks with 3/16-inch brass eyes. Stock flies come with a Gamakatsu Octopus size 2 hook. Also See: Sili-Leg Intruders, Red/Orange Sili-Leg Intruders, Black/Blue

Hartwick's Hoser Tube presents a giant, flowing profile in the water. Weight has been added in the form of a tungsten cone. Not only does this cone add weight, but it is tied in reverse so it creates a solid bump where the marabou is tied in. The marabou will not collapse and the profle remains, even in the fastest water.

Moal leeches are tied entirely on a string with a trailer hook at the back. This gives the fly greater action than a fly tied on a rigid hook. More fish are landed with the Moal fly as well. The tried and True Mother of all Leeches. The classic Strung Out MOAL (Mother of all Leeches) is the one thst started it all. Invented by Derek Fergus is is one heck of a pattern. These really are a pattern you need if you hunt Steelhead. Because we use a Octopus hook the short shank holds fish far better allowing more fish to hand. Because it is tied on a string (braid, 20 lb, doubled over) the fly tends to wiggle and swim in the current. Specially swinging them. Size 2 trailing Owner hook - 2.5" - 3" long (custom flies tied with bead heads)

Steel Plow, Black/Chartreuse Hooking a steelhead on a skated fly is one of the most rewarding experiences in fly fishing. As we sought out to develop a “top-shelf” steelhead skater we turned to an unlikely source for inspiration - blacksmith John Deere’s original walking steel plow. Our #4 short-shanked hook acts as a rudder and helps keep the fly in the surface tension even during violent grabs, while the plow handles act as outriggers, giving the fly balance and the simulation of wings. The flash and hackles catch water and light to give indication of movement and life and an orange sighter helps you track this fly across the early morning slicks. Size 4

The Sputnik Tube Intruder is a blend of traditional Intruder styling and European highlights. A fusion of natural and synthetic materials; Finn Raccoon, Arctic Fox, Ostrich, Predator Wrap and Marabou add to this flies swimming action. The Finn Raccoon wing is reminiscent of Scandi styles. Two stations similar to Intruders. A collar weight behind the front station helps to get the fly down. The Sputnik has great movement and a profile in the water that is irresistible to fish.

Heisenberg Pheasant Intruder Bug (two stages), another Grabflies rendition of the Heisenberg. History: This Fly, and others were named after either Werner Karl Heisenberg (1901 – 1976) was a German theoretical physicist, or Martin Heisenberg inventor of the fly collar. The Pheasant tail wing has good movement and a natural bug presence. Mix that with some blue and Steelhead just got real interested. Non-weighted Fly Size: 1.75 inches Hook: Size 2 Owner - no escape barbless hook, connected to shank with Glow in the dark green junction tubing. GP Pheasant Tippet, rear stage, forward stage has Pheasant under hackle collar, Pheasant tail feather over wing collar, and Guinea collar finish, plus Holographic Flashabou.

A custom tied skating surface pattern that floats and wakes across the river for Steelhead fishing on the surface. Fly is tied with Golden Brown Deer hair for tail with orange flashabou underneath, then spun Elk hair for body with Deer collar and wing, finished with foam wing case. Choice of hooks that come with this fly - see selection below. Two sizes: Medium - for most occasions Large - Off color water and heavier ripples. (Tube Flies - leader/tippet goes thru the tube and is tied to the eye of the hook, then inserted into orange hook holder on tube. For surface flies this is an advantage as tubes float and helps the waking of the fly. Plus hooks can be changed.) Made in the USA by Jeff Layton Made by a fisherman for fishermen

Dennis Gamboa is a talented fly tier from British Columba. Whether he is tying steelhead flies, trout flies or saltwater flies, Dennis has the talent to create some very fishy patterns. The Halo Prawn is Dennis' first submission. The Halo Prawn has a translucent appearance to mimic a prawn in saltwater. Dennis uses Slush Jelly Chenille to give the fly this translucent look. Halo Eyes give the fly some realism and speckled marabou creates some movement. Tied on a 33mm shank and rigged with the Ultra Rig and a size 2 hook.

With many years of intense searching for these anadromous business partners, I have found tying my skaters on a 60° hook has had the most success. The fly skates, pops and gurgles, making it hard for fish to resist. The Hanger is easy to cast and will pop well due to the tail end of the fly being weighed down by the hook. This keeps the legs down and the foam up for that iconic pop. Greatest of all are most of the fish hooked on the 60° jig hook are landed. Black and blue for those early morning dawn patrols and over cast days, orange for bright fish, and white for that 12 O’clock lunch fish when everyone’s taking a nap.

A Grablies original - a cross between a Bugger Leech and a Montana Nymph. I like to swing flies - always have. Even when I trout fish, I would swing nymphs and or do a full swing with a mend when the fly was a cross from me. When I was Twelve I read "The Trout Fisherman's Bible, by Ray Bergman" I practiced the full drift, long before indicators (which I don't use). What I'm getting at - fishing this fly. It is a nymph over half of the drift, and then when I mend and it swings it is a Bugger then. This fly is good for Steelhead and large Trout. Great lakes Steelhead, and Browns, Pacific Northwest Steelhead, BC Steelhead, and Tierra del Fuego...
Marabou tail, Ringneck Pheasant dyed Black Wing Case. Tied on a AHREX NS110 Streamer Hook, Size 6 - very sharp, quality hook.
